I'm an old guy who enjoys playing saxes. I have no ambition to become a great horn-man , but DO have the ambition to continue to thoroughly enjoy music more and more As Time Goes By. A blocker to that enjoyment has been my failure to really understand chord progressions. Sure I got the diatonic part and knew that neighboring scales/arpeggios in the Circle of Fifths often sounded OK, but I never had anywhere near the AHA moment this little book gave me by putting it all together.Working from a KISS style, Dan Starr hits the nail right on the head (I have many Aebersold Volumes and a lot of other "How to" instructional music materials from various sources that do have a lot of excellent and usable information that can, shall we conformly say, be laboriously gleaned from labyrinthine, complex presentations).
What was missing, for a fun-time amateur musician carrying many other tasks that life outside of music entails, was a SIMPLE explanation on why/how chords progress.
"Chord Progressions - How to Understand Them" truly jerked me from a prone reading position to an absolute sitting-up awake reading position at 1:30 AM.
